Premier Gold Mines to host Community Info Session
  
  
January 25, 2012: Premier Gold Mines Limited will be holding a Community Information Session on Tuesday February 7th, 2012 at 2pm and 5 pm to provide an update on the Hardrock Project and conduct a review of the Advanced Exploration Permits.
Location: Nimikii Migizi Secondary School located at 100 Balsam Rd, Longlac, ON
 
Interested Government Ministries (MOE, MNDM, MNR) and technical experts will be present to respond to questions related to the Regulatory and overall advanced exploration process and plans.
All Ginoogaming First Nation Band members are invited and encouraged to attend. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.

Matawa Chiefs fear Canada's choice for Ring of Fire EA Assessment
 
Thunder Bay, October 13, 2011 – Matawa Chiefs are in a state of disbelief about the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency’s (CEAA) decision to side with industry by choosing a Comprehensive Study Environmental Assessment (EA) process for the Cliff’s Chromite Project near Webequie and Marten Falls First Nations. The Matawa Chiefs have been calling for a Joint Review Panel Environmental Assessment since May 2011.

Chief Celia Echum Re-elected for 3rd Term
 
On Monday August 22, 2011 - Chief Celia Echum was re-elected for her 3rd straight term as Chief of Ginoogaming. The last Chief to do this was her husband Gabriel Echum from 1993-1999.
 
Celia received 127 votes to clinch the victory.
 
The following band councillors were also elected:

Jerry Echum (66)
Maurice Waboose (59)
Joanne Mendowegan (56)
Blaine (Charlie) Martin (54)
Gabriel Echum (52)
 
The election was diligently conducted in accordance with the Indian Band Election Regulations and signed by Vaughn Johnston, Electoral Officer. View statement of votes.
 

 
 
GFN Signs MOU with Greenstone for Mill Restart
   
August 16 - Officials from Greenstone and Ginoogaming First Nation are pushing ahead with plans to open a pair of idled nearby wafer-board and plywood plants.

On Tuesday the two sides inked a memorandum of understanding to work to convince the province to provide the wood needed to take the next step to fully reopen the wafer-board facility in Greenstone and parts of a plywood facility in Longlac.

Both have been shut down since 2008, and the restarts would create 330 direct jobs. For more see news video below and full article
